Description:

"Rise Like a Phoenix" is a four-part painting that tells a story of strength, change, and love overcoming hate. Each of the four canvases can stand alone but also connect to create a bigger picture.

The subject of the painting is Raphael, a non-binary person, shown in four different poses. In the first panel, they are surrounded by bright flames, representing struggle and passion. In the second, the flames are smaller, mixed with glowing ashes, showing moments of pain and endurance. The third panel shows only ashes, symbolizing a time of loss and transformation. In the final panel, beautiful, colorful flowers grow out of the ashes, representing hope, rebirth, and new life.

The background of all four canvases is a cement wall covered in graffiti. Some of the graffiti contains hateful, queerphobic words, while other parts include positive and supportive messages. This contrast shows the mix of challenges and support that queer people face.

The painting is inspired by the idea of a phoenix, a mythical bird that rises from its ashes. It represents how queer people can turn hate and judgment into strength and love, proving that we can rise above negativity and shine even brighter.
